US: Strong Winter Storm Brings Blizzard Conditions To Sierra Nevada 3

A strong winter storm hit the Sierra Nevada on Friday, March 1, bringing heavy snow and high winds. Blizzard Warnings were issued for the area, including Lake Tahoe and eastern Nevada. The Sierra Avalanche Center warned that the danger of avalanches was high. Yosemite National Park and many ski resorts in the region announced they were closing at least for the day.

TOKYO, Japan - A group of South Koreans launch a sit-in protest Aug. 11 at a Tokyo Shinto shrine honoring Japan's war dead as well as war criminals, demanding Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi cancel his planned visit to the shrine. The nine-member group, from a South Korean association of bereaved families of military personnel and civilian employees of the Japanese military who died during World War II, plans to continue the protest through Aug. 15, the 56th anniversary of Japan's surrender.
